Understanding High-Yield Savings Rates in June 2026

As of June 2026, the national average savings rate is just 0.38% APY. The accounts on this page pay 8x to 13x that average. The gap between a standard savings account at a big bank and a high-yield account at an online bank is hundreds of dollars per year on a $10,000 balance.

The Federal Reserve cut rates three times in late 2025, bringing the federal funds rate to 3.50%–3.75%. Savings rates have been slowly drifting down as a result, but the best accounts still pay well above 3.50% APY. If more rate cuts come (the next FOMC meeting is June 16–17), today's rates may not last.

The key decision is conditional vs. unconditional rates. Varo offers the highest rate at 5.00%, but only on the first $5,000 and only with qualifying direct deposits. If you want a high rate with no strings attached, Vio Bank at 4.03% or EverBank at 3.90% are the better choices.

Methodology

We track APYs from all major online banks and update this page whenever rates change. Rankings prioritize: APY (highest first), followed by whether the rate has conditions, minimum balance requirements, ease of use, and overall banking ecosystem. All accounts listed are FDIC or NCUA insured.
